Route each Grant County request by record type:
- Filed court documents: Grant County Clerk of Circuit Court, 130 W. Maple Street, Lancaster, 608-723-2752, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; confirm the office through the circuit-court contacts or state clerk directory
- Sheriff reports and jail material: Grant County Sheriff and Jail, 8820 Hwy 35/61/81, Lancaster, 608-723-2157, staffed 24 hours; use the sheriff's public-record request instructions, jail FAQ, and inmate handbook for the matching issue
- Wisconsin criminal history: review the Wisconsin DOJ criminal-history check overview and documents and forms hub; a mail request uses DJ-LE-250, while a person's own national review uses the FBI Identity History Summary
- City police reports: the Platteville, Lancaster, Boscobel, or other police agency that created the report
- Expungement papers: the clerk of the circuit court that entered the judgment and the court system's CR-266 form listing
- Registry and victim services: the Wisconsin Public Sex Offender Registry at WI Stay Safe or the Grant County Victim/Witness Coordinator, depending on the need
- Federal records: search the federal docket through PACER and confirm Grant County's district through the Western District history
The sheriff accepts online public-record requests through Grant County NextRequest. The county does not publish a separate records-division address, direct email, or routine response time, so use the 24-hour main number when the portal does not answer a practical question. General county copy and locating charges appear in Grant County Code chapter 63.
